These administration exercises include successful treatment of data and this is the place compelling data frameworks come in accommodating. For instance, in playing out the controlling part of the board, it would include taking care of different arrangement of data to check if certain gauges are met underway, deals or different business work. Data framework will assist me with getting this data through a system and taking care of this monstrous measure of data will be simpler using data programming which would have been in any case arduous without the assistance of data framework. Private data that identifies with the worker or data that doesn't identify with the activity must not be revealed or utilized for other reason other than what it is expected. Innovation can be useful yet can likewise be damaging in the event that it isn't guided by moral thought. HTML represents Hypertext Markup Language. Tim Berners-Lee, a designer from CERN initially built up the possibility of HTML. The possibility of HTML came out of Berner-Lee’s dissatisfaction of signing on to various PCs just to get the data he required. He thought about that there must be a superior method to get a lot of data from various PCs which conceived an offspring the possibility of HTML. So the first idea of HTML was a hyper-text framework that interfaces organizing innovation and conventions to share data between PCs. From that point on, it later created to turn into the premise and major language of the internet or web (www.landofcode.com). It began with its

What Happens When You Bounce a Check

What Happens When You Bounce a Check What Happens When You Bounce a Check? What Happens When You Bounce a Check? For the most part, things that bounce are really fun. But when it comes to bouncing checks, theres no fun in sight.Fall is underway! Sometimes when things fall, they land with a thud. But other times, they bounce, buddy! And one of those things that can bounce is a check. But what exactly does it mean to have one of your checks bounce? And what should you do if you receive a bounced check? Let’s find out! A quick checking check-in.You probably know what happens when you write a check, but just in case, let’s review real quick: When you write a check, you’re telling your bank to transfer the amount you’ve specified to the person or entity you’re writing the check too.Even so, it’ll take a few days for the money to be transferred from your account after the check is cashed. And remember: The other person has to deposit the check before those funds will be removed. If you dont currently have the funds in your account to cover the transactio n, you can ask the person receiving the check to wait for a longer period of time before cashing it. However, there’s no guarantee that they will actually wait. That’s why, when you write a check, you should treat it like those funds are being removed from your account as you’re writing it.Because if you don’t, and you don’t have the proper funds in your account when the check recipient attempts to cash the check, the check will bounce.NSF Fees and lost trust.  So what happens if someone tries to cash a check you wrote for them and it bounces?“There are two major consequences of bouncing a check,” explained financial educator and Joseph Dillard. “First, you will be charged a Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) Fee. Depending on the financial institution, this fee ranges from $25-$38 per occurrence. That can get expensive!Second, you lose trust with the person or merchant to whom you wrote the check. Several merchants do not even accept checks anymore because of the great poss ibility that they might bounce. Instead, they opt for electronic payments in the form of debit and credit cards.”Jared Weitz, CEO and Founder of United Capital Source Inc, echoed Dillard’s explanation and added an additional consequence:“Aside from the bank fee, I think there are many consequences of bouncing a check. The person who the check bounced on now has a notion that you’re no good for checks anymore, and who knows who else they will tell right? Also, the bank won’t extend protection against checks bouncing if you have a history of it. There’s also generally a late fee for paying something late and on a percentage basis it’s generally large.”Well, that’s not great! But what can you do about it?The best solution is prevention.Obviously, as we mentioned above, the best way to deal with bouncing a check is to never have bounced a check in the first place.“The number one way to avoid bouncing checks is to balance your checkbook,” advised Dillard. “Many peo ple do not write in check registers to note deposits and purchases, so they do not know exactly how much money they have in their checking accounts. As a result, they end up giving away money by paying NSF fees. These fees can be avoided by balancing their checkbook, so they will know exactly how much money they have when they write a check to make a purchase. You can read more about this on Dillards ExBanker blog.Still, even if youre better moving forward, you can’t change the past. So what should you do if you have a check that bounced? Here’s what Dillard suggested:“The first thing you should do is get to the bank to make a deposit to make sure enough money is in your account to cover the cost of the NSF fee and to cover the check in case it is presented again. A lot of merchants will present the check to the bank a second time in an attempt to get paid for the item.Second, contact the merchant to let them know that you made a mistake but there is enough in your account for the check to be presented again. This will build confidence in the merchant for you.”But what if you’re the bouncee?Bounce back to reality. While receiving a bounced check may not have the same negative consequences as writing one, it still comes with the obvious disadvantage of not getting the money you needed or were owed.“If you’re on the receiving end of a bounced check, the first thing would be to contact the person that sent it to you for an explanation and then take it from there,” recommended Weitz. “If it’s possible to withhold services or goods until a new check clears you should.”Being on either side of a bounced check is not an ideal situation. But with proper precaution and communication, you lower the odds of being negatively affected. Make sure to keep your financial house in order so it doesn’t become a bouncy castle. To learn more about managing your finances, check out these related posts from OppLoans:From Budget to Baller: 6 Tips to Grow Your Mone yThe (Comprehensive) Couple’s Guide To Budgeting8 Ways To Save Money Today, Tomorrow and Every Day AfterWhat are your best strategies for avoiding a bounced check? 1984 9 Essay Example For Students

1984 9 Essay AN ANALYTIC ESSAY ON 1984Who is watching us? Who judges us? And most importantly who controls us? In George Orwells novel 1984, Big Brother was in charge of all these crucial aspects of everyones lives. This book which was written long before 1984 can really take place at anytime and anywhere. The concepts and themes of this book are very real and very frightening. May be telescreens do not exist but V-chips and Pentium III computers are very much alive. Even though we live in modern times how do we know who is insane? The world is flat and the planets revolve around Earth were once sane statements. Finally do we control ourselves in this Democratic country or are we just puppets dancing to the high and powerful affluent members of our society. Or maybe G-d himself is the one who makes us do the things we do. The thought police seek out and cure the misguided people who simply think too much. They look at you minute by minute to see what you are doing and how u are doing it. I think more interesting than the thought police are the teaching of the morals of the land to the children. They are taught the ways of Ingsoc. They know right from wrong. One of Winstons peers was taken away because his own daughter told the thought police on him. In this society children are at school more than they are even home. It is very possible to have a closer relationship with a teacher than with a parent. On top of that, Big Brother and the inner party teach that it is only you and the party;. Meaning the party is very individualized. This allows the party to function very nicely because people do not make relationships with other people only to the party. People in Oceania are never left alone. If you are alone and you are not sleeping this would definitely be looked at by the thought police. To keep people occupied there are hate speeches in order to show your love to Big Brother and Hate to the opposing country that Oceania is at war with. Everyone has a job and they are many organizations to belong to like the junior anti-sex league. Surveillance is a frightening thing. If you knew that everywhere you turned you were being recorded it could drive you crazy. The truth is that most of the places we go we are recorded. Such as security cameras in schools, malls, stores, and even on the street near ATMs. Phone lines are easy to tap and most calls you make to stores or businesses are recorded. They even tell you that your conversation is being monitored for your protection. The V-chip that would allow the government to monitor and control what you watched on TV exists. And even without it the government controls most things from the media. We do not know exactly what goes on in other countries. We see wars on TV and the news but what dont we see. The Pentium III computer by Intel is able to note everywhere you go online in order to get feedback of what people like to see on the Internet. Tracking is being done too on a daily basis. How many people have Easy-Pass? It tracks the amount of times you go through a bridge. Who knows if they could track that from a satellite? Everything from Caller-ID to punching into work tracks your every move. Just like Winston doesnt know who is in the thought police, we dont know who is an undercover police officer. Roberto Baggio Essay They are in malls, schools and in the streets all the time. Ignorance is Strength. Ignorance also keeps you from knowing the truth. The people of Oceania accept ignorance. In the novel, Winston was thought to be insane for not loving Big Brother. Then after torture and pain Winston gave in. He did love Big Brother. The irony is that this is probably when Winston truly became insane. I believe that the people of Oceania as a whole were very ignorant. They did not realize, question, or care that the history was being erased, that their allies would change constantly, that Big Brother was immortal since he had invented everything including the question mark. But what I find interesting is that as individuals they did know what was happening. Look how many people worked with Winston. Changing the past was not just Winstons job. As I said before, the silence was mostly because it was you and the party;. No one socialized. There were no friends, family would turn on you, and most people did not love their husbands/wives. It was impermissible to show affection to your spouse. The board would choose who should get married. If the two people were shown to be in love then they could not be married. Winstons wife would not have sex but do her duty to the party;. The insanity of life in Oceania was not being able to trust anyone. I dont think that there was a revolutionary group. But people did see what was going on. People did think about revolting. But in Oceania one man cant make a difference. Without people backing you there cant be a revolt. People were thinking about revolting and hating Big Brother. If not, why were there thought police? When Winston went to be cured in the Ministry of Love there were other people there. If no one felt hatred to this way of life then Winston would have been alone. Big Brother is the leader of Oceania. No one has actually seen him in person. He controls everything and has been around forever. The people love him even though they cant see him. He is like G-d to them. In the bible, G-d is everywhere. He sees everything and hears everything. He knows what you are thinking and sees your good deeds. Big Brother as well does all of this. With the help of the telescreens all of this is made possible. The people do not even question his existence. I feel that if OBrien was working all along for the inner party that maybe Goldstein is really Big Brother. The book he wrote did not really explain everything and Goldstein is really somewhat of an unknown as well. The novel 1984 opened the minds of many people in the 1940s. More importantly, is that even today 1984 still allows us to view the world with Winstons eyes. It shows us how many things we do on a daily basis for no other reason then thats what we are supposed to do. The ideas of the book are truly a parallel to Big Brother because they are both timeless entities.

Who Is Responsible For Starting Wwi Essays - Causes Of World War I

Who Is Responsible For Starting Wwi Who is Responsible for Causing World War I? In August of 1914, the war to end all wars began. The First World War saw incredible amounts of casualties because of new fighting techniques and technology, among other reasons. While it is clear who the victors of the war were after the battles had been fought and the Peace of Paris signed, what is not clear is who started this war. Historians have debated this question since the very early stages of the war and it is one that still remains without one concrete answer. A common elementary history textbook will explain the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria as the sole cause for World War one, but further research seriously brings this statement into question. I feel as though it was not one single person, or even a single country who/that caused the war, but rather a series of events and situations which include the following: the allying of countries and preparing for war which preceded the fighting itself, the actions of the Black Hand as a message of Serbian national ists, the persuasion of Austria-Hungary by Germany for a swift retribution for this act, and Russia's swift mobilization of troops along the Central Powers' eastern border in the early stages of the war. The first and possibly most important cause of World War I may have been the allying of the countries involved in the war and the posturing for action which they participated in. Although many treaties were signed and many alliances made previously, the start of the time line of WWI may be traced to the Dual Alliance signed by Germany and Austria-Hungary in 1879, to which Italy joined in 1882 forming the Triple Alliance. It was an agreement that was one of military protection, stating that if any member of the alliance were to become involved in the war with two other powers, they would respond with military aid and intervention. This agreement was countered by the Franco-Russian Alliance signed in 1894. Its terms were similar to that of the Triple Alliance's. These two agreements directly opposed one another. Who would there be to oppose these groups but one another? These drawing of allies basically served to prepare Europe for eminent war. After their signings, it seems very plausible and likely that the many power struggles in Europe would only be solved by warfare. At this point in time, many countries started to prepare for a war that they were unsure would even occur, much less who it would be fought against. The first of these movements was the incredible investment of France's resources into Russia. The French knew that to be a valuable ally, Russia would have to be better equipped and more able to fight, if needed. Therefore, by the time Russia started to mobilize in the early stages of war, France had invested incredible amounts of money and resources to support and build up its principle ally. However, They were not the only countries preparing for possible war. Germany took this opportunity to construct a naval fleet. The chief result of this naval production was an equal production from England, which held a common interest of having a two-to-one naval advantage over all other countries. The ongoing one-upping between these two countries led to huge fleets being assembled with no other primary function, save for war. Because of this, these new navies only increased the probability of a costly war. By the beginning of war, the German to English ship ratio was in proportion of 10 - 16 which the English often regarded as unmenacing. These events were causes of the war in that they affected many other countries besides those directly involved. Neighboring countries noticing increased armament would only want to arm themselves, which is what happened in this instance. The result was the cause of a widespread nervousness in regards to a war that more and more people were not only coming to expect, but also one that many were starting to realize would be quite great in scope. The next significant event, in my opinion, was the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand of Austria by the Serbian nationalist group, Black Hand.

Gender Class and Race Stereotypes in American Television essays

Gender Class and Race Stereotypes in American Television essays Gender, Class, and Race Stereotypes in American Television Gender, class, and race stereotypes abound in contemporary society, much like they have done throughout human history. With the advent of television, however, stereotypical assumptions have become so pervasive, and so diffused, that some call for a serious and purposeful scrutiny of television's contents. On the following pages, various content analyses of television programs will be addressed, followed by discussions on the greater implications race, class, and gender stereotypes have on society. The research method most often used in studying media images is called content analysis. Content analysis is a descriptive method in which researchers analyze the actual content of documents and/or programs. By systematically counting items pertaining to a specific category, researchers are able to conceptualize a larger theoretical framework based on their observations of media content (Wiseman 1970). Content analyses of television programming show, that during prime time hours, men make up the vast majority of characters shown. Furthermore, women characters found during that same time frame are mainly in comedies, while men predominate in dramas. Thus, the implications are that men are to be taken serious, while women should not. (Tuchman 1978). Similarly, content analyses on soap operas reveal highly stereotypical representations of the genders. In soap operas, strong, willful women are predominantly depicted as villainous, while the more "benevolent" women are suspect of vulnerability and naivety (Benokraitis 1986). Furthermore, another sharp gender-stereotypical contrast on television content can be seen in advertisements. In fact, 75% of all television ads using women are for kitchen or bathroom related products (Tuchman 1978) On average, women tend to be portrayed in roles in which they are underestimated, condemned or narrowly defined, resulting in on...

Cinema in Egypt Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Cinema in Egypt - Term Paper Example First, it is important to consider major milestones in the development of the Egyptian cinematography. It is noteworthy that the first â€Å"purpose-built cinema house† was built in Egypt in 1907 (Gamal 2). It suggests that Egyptians were interested in the new form of art and the industry could easily pave its way. Initially, foreign films were shown. The first national film was produced in 1917 (Danielson 87). However, those were first attempts, though they were quite successful. The industry started developing rapidly in 1925 when Tal’at Harb, a successful banker, started his own film company. Importantly, the banker employed only nationals and he even sent the most promising ones to Europe for the necessary training (Danielson 87). Unshudat al-Fu’ad / Song from the Heart (1932) was one of the first Egyptian sound films (Shafik 45). This musical film was very successful and it inspired many Egyptian filmmakers. Another musical, al-Warda al-Badha / The White Rose produced in 1933, was also the first Egyptian movie â€Å"to be successfully exported to other Arab countries† (Shafik 45). Muhammad Karim, Ahmad Badrakhan, Fatima Rushdi were among those directors who shaped the Egyptian cinematography and created or rather identified its most significant conventions. The middle of the 20th century is regarded as the golden age of the Egyptian cinematography. Numerous brilliant films were created at that period. It is necessary to note that major themes and genres remained the same. Those were often musical films and comedies that promulgated universal values. They will be considered in detail below. However, during the 1970-1980s, the industry was declining and the number of films produced decreased significantly (Russell 344). Their quality was often very low. At present, the Egyptian industry is on its rise and numerous talented filmmakers manage to produce highly successful national films. As has been mentioned above,

World view discussion about the flaws of the belief system of the Research Paper

World view discussion about the flaws of the belief system of the Religion of Scientology - Research Paper Example Despite the many negative character traits of the founder, scientology is considered a religion that uses dirty tricks as well as being a killer4. The religion’s fair game practice has attracted many opponents who have been maltreated through propaganda and malice. What’s more, while under the care of Flag Service Organization (FSO)5, which is a branch of the Scientology Church, Lisa McPherson passed on after being neglected on the basis of religion. Every religion should struggle to give life but for religion of scientology that is not the case. Religion of scientology does not only rip off but is also anti-psychiatry. One has to take expensive courses in order to be part of the religion. According to the religion of scientology human beings are spiritual and all that psychology does is to reduce them into robotized and drugged states6. In order to share a gospel of Jesus Christ with a believer of scientology, there is need to invoke the application of existence of human beings and other creatures. It is important to begin by outlining how the world came to be making such a believer to accept the presence of some supernatural powers that led to creation of the earth, heaven, and all that is within the earth. Once the believer is convinced of such existence, it becomes easier to share with him/her the gospel of Jesus Christ from the perspective of the existence of supernatural

Erythropoietin: Advantages and Disadvantages for Athletes EPO (Erythropoietin), its advantages and disadvantages for endurance athletes. For the purposes of this essay an understanding of what EPO (Erythropoietin) is will be established. An understanding of how EPO works in the body will also be established. EPO’s use in medicinal practice is wide and varied and will be referred to also. Given an understanding of its mechanism and its effect on the body, its usefulness to endurance athletes will be established. Studies on its effectiveness will then be analyzed and referred to with reference to the health risks attached to this use. This will culminate in a brief overview of the history of EPO usage or â€Å"Blood Doping† in professional sports. EPO acts in the body as a glycoprotein hormone that regulates red blood cell (RBC) production. Its function is as a protein signaling molecule for RBC precursors in the bone marrow. EPO is produced naturally in the body by interstitial fibroblasts in the kidneys and by perisinusoidal cells present in the liver. Production of EPO in adults is most common in the kidneys. Notwithstanding, EPO is also involved in the healing process after the infliction of wounds and is part of the cerebral response to neuronal trauma. In terms of modern medicine, EPO is harvested from cell cultures and is used to treat anemia (a decrease in the bodies RBC count). EPO is also used in the treatment of Myelodysplasia, which is a type of cancer that inhibits the bone marrows ability to produce healthy RBCs. Most EPO prescribed to patients contain major health warnings about increased risk of heart attack, stroke and even the reoccurrence of certain tumors. Put simply, athletes who harness the power of EPO can go harder for longer. EPO allows bone marrow to create RBCs and thus extra hemoglobin. Consequently EPO is most generally utilized among endurance athletes as a means to increasing their RBC count which in turn results in better oxygen transportation along these lines and a vast improvement in aerobic respiration. The quicker the rate of high-impact respiration, the higher the level at which the competitor can work without using the anaerobic frameworks which deliver lactic acid and increase weakness. Traditionally, â€Å"blood doping† involved training at high altitude for a period of between 4 and 6 weeks. The blood that was rich in oxygen was then harvested from the body exactly as one would donate blood. The oxygen rich blood was then transfused back into the body at sea level prior to or during competition. Despite its natural occurrence in the body it can be synthesized into a serum that people can inject through the skin. Therefore its usefulness for endurance athletes is quite apparent. A vast number of studies concerning the effectiveness of EPO injection for Endurance athletes. The primary study to be analyzed as part of this essay is â€Å"Hemoglobin Mass and Running Time Trial Performance after Recombinant Human Erythropoietin Administration in Trained Men† by Yiannis Pitsiladis et al. The study was undertaken by infusing long distance runners with EPO every other day for a month. Their times were enhanced 3% to 6% on average after 4 weeks of use. The Pitsiladis study was part funded by the World Anti-Doping agency. They stated the reason for funding the study was the find ways of increasing the detectability of EPO use among professional endurance athletes, rather than to highlight the drug’s effectiveness. Be that as it may, the current report made no notice of any such testing or test outcomes. The study did note that EPO infusions, which expand the bodys RBC mass (consequently prompting more prominent oxygen conveyance and speedier running exhibitions on persistent occasions), additionally diminish the bodys aggregate blood plasma volume. A further study by Prof. Max Gassmann from the University of Zurich stated that EPO usage had massive psychological benefits to an athlete. He found that there were serious gains to be made in terms of motivation after treating genetically modified mice that produced human EPO solely in their brains. He surmised that EPOs possible mental health benefits were limitless given proper dosage and that it could be used to potentially alleviate the devastating symptoms suffered by Schizophrenics. I contrast to this, a peer reviewed study of the effectiveness of EPO doping for cyclists suggested that there was no tangible evidence to support the claim that EPO enhances performance in top athletes. The study was titled â€Å"Erythropoietin doping in cycling: Lack of evidence for efficacy and a negative risk benefit† by J A A C Heuberger et al. The summary of their findings suggested there was no increase in performance for top cyclists and that performance was based on more than V02 max results and that higher power output for longer doesn’t correlate with athletic performance, particularly in cycling. The main finding of the report was that the health risks associated with EPO supplementation were simply not worth the increase in V02 max or power output. Athlete’s use of artificial EPO became a very popular method of performance enhancement, specifically for cyclists in the 1980s and has been linked with many champion athletes being stripped of titles and banned from the sport. The most famous case of admitted EPO use was by seven times Tour De France Champion, Lance Armstrong. Advances in retroactive testing of blood, hair and urine samples may lead to other high profile athletes suffering the same fate in the years to come. However athletes prior to the EPO era were more inclined to use anabolic steroids and amphetamines as a means of performance enhancement. To summarize, EPO usage leads to an increase in RBC mass and its ability to transfer oxygen molecules around the body. It allows for an increase in Vo2 max and power output. However its effectiveness on the performance of top athletes is up for debate as an increased ability to go harder for longer does not necessarily lead to increased athletic performance. Despite this EPOs prevalence endurance sports would suggest that many athletes across different codes consider it a performance enhancing substance, despite the obvious health risks. Internet Hackers :: Argumentative Persuasive Essays

Hackers Last year, two Cloverdale teenagers pleaded guilty to federal charges. What did they do that the FBI raided their homes and seized their computers? They hacked into Pentagon computer systems. These two teenagers, Makaveli and TooShort, were also suspected of breaking into computers at universities, government agencies and military bases. This example and many others show the increase of hackers and their crimes over the years. In another story that is similar to the story about Makaveli and Too Short, from a BBC News story, Hackers target Nasa and Pentagon, an international group of computer hackers broke into Pentagon computer systems and also said they had stolen key software from Nasa. The group consisted of eight Americans, five British and two Russians. They called themselves the "Masters of Downloading." They were considering selling the information to international terrorist groups or foreign governments. The number of hacker related crimes seems to be increasing y ear by year. Theft on the internet is costing companies billions, and the high-tech industry is struggling to stop it. According to Michael Meyer's Crimes of the "Net", last year roughly $2 billion worth of software was stolen over the internet last year. Also that year, the leader of an international piracy ring operating out of Spain, pleaded guilty to a brand of fraud destined to become commonplace. According to U.S. investigators, they stole 140,000 telephone credit-card numbers. Hackers used the numbers to make a total of $140 million worth of long-distance phone calls. Now, the question is who is really at loss here. The answer is simple. Companies like GTE, AT &T, Bell Atlantic and MCI. Because of these hackers, those companies lost a lot of money. What actions must be taken to stop these theives? According to the hackers, they call what they are doing sharing. Hackers are criminals that steal from others to better themselves. They are leeches, feeding off ot her peoples' personal items. People have to become aware of the risk they face with hackers. Software and phone cards isn't the end of the stealing hackers. Everything from computer parts to flowers and teddy bears are at risk to hackers. With the increasing technology, the abuse is almost endless.

Unicorns Are Real After All

Unicorns Are Real After All The Lavada Johnston Story â€Å"I just don’t understand how people can go through with one-night stands, I just can’t do it. † I just sat there for a little while in silent disbelief. I was trying to decide whether or not I should take offense to the statement or not. Before I could formulate my response, my friend Lavada said, â€Å"No offense to you, or anyone else, I just don’t get it. † Throughout my life, I thought I had encountered pretty much every type of person, and I could’ve sworn that I had my generation completely pegged. However, since meeting Lavada Johnston, my iron-clad definition of people my age has been greatly disproven. I first met Lavada, in my Stage Crafting class. Because it was the beginning of the semester, I didn’t really know any of the other theater students just yet. But for some reason, I felt drawn to her. She had a very intriguing look about her. She had a curvaceous and voluptuous body type. Her hair was jet black, nails painted black, black eye make-up, and a lip ring. My first impression was that she was either of the gothic or emo persuasion, but she didn’t exactly have the particularly â€Å"dark† quality that most gothic/emo people I’ve met possess. She had sort of a quirkiness about her that didn’t seem intimidating. In fact, it was pretty much very inviting. I consider myself a pretty good judge of character, so I decided to befriend her. To my surprise, it didn’t take long at all for us to develop a rather strong friendship with each other. The more I hung around her, the more interesting she became to me, and still does now. She sometimes seems sort of reserved and maybe even shy sometimes, but all of that goes out of the window when she is comfortable. She is full of life, a vibrant fun loving college student. When I found out that her natural hair color is actually blonde, I wasn’t even surprised. In fact, once I thought about it, it really suits her, and her personality. Like myself, Lavada is a theater major. She wants to pursue musical theater, but for some reason, she is shy about singing. This is something I didn’t understand considering she has an amazing singing, and perfect for the theater. Her musical interests are also something that caused us to spark such a quick friendship. Turns out we are both Family Force 5 fanatics, although Lavada may be border lining obsession. All of the things I’ve mentioned about her are all things I find very interesting about her. But there is one particular reason that piqued my interest enough to really cause me to press even further into her life and to explore her outlook on the world around her. One day after grabbing lunch in the union, Lavada and I were walking together, seeing how my dorm was in the same direction as hers. We had what eventually became a very serious discussion. I’ll never forget my mixture of surprise and disbelief when I found out Lavada’s secret. I’m not exactly sure how we got on this topic of conversation, but somehow we ended up discussing sex. However, it’s not like it’s uncommon for college students to talk about sex. In fact, what college student hasn’t had sex before, right? Wrong. I still can hear the words as clear as a bell in my head, â€Å"Scottie, I’m a virgin. † When she told me this, there was no way I could hide the shocked expression plastered all over my face. It took me a while to even gather that she was serious. Lavada Johnston is a twenty-one year old college student, who has never had sex. Part of me felt guilty for being so surprised by this confession. I mean, it’s not like it’s a bad thing or anything like that. It was just, I’ve never known such a person to resist. But then I decided that I must be missing something here. Maybe I should read the fine print, I thought. But as I pressed further into Lavada and her sexual activity, the more I believed her. I said to myself there has to be some technicalities or something because you can’t just go your entire life without having sex, unless you’re one of those insanely religious people or something. Seeing how Lavada wasn’t anywhere near being a religious type person, my curiosity was piqued even further. For lack of a better one, my first question was simply, â€Å"Why? Lavada looked around, gave an innocent but rather vacant expression, flailed her hands up and said, â€Å"I don’t know. † By this point, I began to seriously pester her and express my whole-hearted awe in her confession. Over and over again, Lavada gave me not one excuse or reason as to why she had never had sex. Everything she said was enough to cause the average girl to have the occasional â₠¬Å"I hate boys† syndrome, but never is it enough to hold back the raging hormones we’re faced with at this age. Or so I thought. I decided to have an official interview with Lavada, in which I would be determined to find the answers I was looking for. Lavada Johnston was born in Winona, Mississippi and then later moved to Eupora, Mississippi, which is where she stills whenever school isn’t in session. She attended Montgomery High School in Kilmichael, where she graduated in the year 2007. Throughout her school days, Lavada seemed to be the classic headstrong rebel type of girl who got into plenty of trouble for fighting. Her family moved around a lot, so she never stayed in one place for long. This made it really hard for her to develop a strong circle of friends. Therefore, she turned to books. She loves to read. She was one of those Harry Potter type kids, into mythical creatures, magic, vampires, you know, the whole nine yards. As far as music goes, aside from Family Force 5, she is pretty much hard rock oriented. I asked her why she chose to come to Ole Miss. She responded with a very straight forward answer. â€Å"It was either here, or Mississippi State, but if I had gone to state, I know I would’ve gotten into too many fights. I simply laughed and nodded in agreement at my friend. It is safe to say, that since coming to college, she has finally found steady friends, which of course she loves because she hasn’t ever really had that before. I of course was and still am both grateful and happy to be a friend to her. The more I hang around Lavada, the more I see the kind of person she is. There is no denying that is sweet and kind to any everyone. I obser ved that she has a hard to saying no to people, even if she wants to. In my opinion, Lavada possesses something that is rare in our generation. And I don’t mean her virginity. Although, I do believe that it truly reflects the kind of person she really is. She’s someone who isn’t concerned with impressing others. The fact that she has yet to swipe her â€Å"V- card† speaks volumes about her values and the standards that she holds for herself. She is kind, fun-loving, and seems to sincerely care about her fellow human-being in a way that is apparent in her everyday life. I truly wish more people our age would take a lesson from Lavada, and maybe we could all make a change for the better.

Did nuclear weapons keep the peace during the Cold War Free Essay Example, 1500 words

Deployment of the nuclear weapons was a fundamental development in the history, whereby these weapons served as a way of raising the destructive power. In this case, a thermonuclear weapon was developed without limits, and there were destructive yields with reduced periods for delivering the ballistic missiles; thus, escalation of the Cold War would have caused the end of civilization. The nuclear weapons emanated from international relations, which were experienced during the discrepancy in 1945, where there was a war between the capitalists in the west and the communist in the East (Morgenthau, 1964, 25). Moreover, nuclear altercation initiated establishment of peace through there were speculation on return of great political power. In fact, there degree of expectations concerning other systems of the world was realistic, thorough a counterfactual surveys related to the history. Focusing on the period after the cold war, there were attempts to alter the bipolar international system, which did not require mutually assured destruction (Booth instead, it was a form of reinforcement. Similarly, there were no chances for the USSR and USA to recover from the effects of the Second World War. The political dissections were not caused by the nuclear weapons during the Cold War; in fact, there were attempts for overthrowing the USSR when Bolsheviks was in power during 1917. USSR made a significant contribution to the process of planning war, and during the late 1930s, they choose their partners. In USSR, there was need for capitalist powers in Europe, which led to conflicts among the citizens, and there were efforts to agitate the revolution of workers in other states in Europe (Jervis, 1989, 20). However, there were interior tendencies on the international stages in 1920s and 1930s. A sever relationship of power and fear would have been intensified between the East and the West were it not for the development of the nuclear weapons. In situations, there would be no peaceful coexistence if there were no mutually assured destruction (MAD). The foreign policy of the Khrushchev was criticized by Molotov, whereby eliminating chances of a predicament through a reconciliation process with a focus on spreading the insurrection using the violence and inferences of MAD (Fursenko & Naftali, 2006, 25).
